HOW IT ALL STARTED

METRONAUT are a Hitchin based duo, Ian Kinsey and Mark Holt

We've been writing and recording music for way too long!

We started back in the late 70's recording our first album on two cassette machines, bouncing each take back and forth until we had an acceptable noise. Bathed in hiss and distortion we were proud of our efforts. Onward! We said .......

We were in several bands in the 1980's, not always together, but each of us gathered experience and influences as we went along.

We recorded various tracks during the years, both on home recording gear and in studios. Our biggest project in the early 90's was an album written and recored by us as 'The Senate' called 'Childs Play'. It was entirely recorded on a cassette 'porta studio', mixed to quarter inch tape, then mastered onto CD. In fact just two CD's.

After the effort of writing that album we took a break, although we got together occasionally to play guitars and synths. We recorded various home albums and music, Mark had a solo album called 'Global' released in the late 1990's, and Ian went on to join a band.

It wasn't until the next decade that we got together again, and wrote and recorded a new album 'Still Waiting For A Crisis' as The Senate in 2012. This was followed by 'Everyone Knows Something' in 2013.

In 2017 we decided that a change of direction was needed, with an updated sound, so we renamed ourselves METRONAUT, and moved away from being a mainly guitar band. We released our first METRONAUT album in 2017, 'Welcome To Funland' .

Our next project was put together to celebrate the 50th Anniversary of the first moon landing in 1969. This double CD was written and released in 4 'phases' with the final phase and CD being released exactly 50 years after the moon landing.

It was well received and caught the imagination of those interested in the event itself, but also those who liked the overall vibe of the album.

Our latest project is a new album, 'Shapes Of All Sizes'.
